Sayid Mohamed Technical Education College
is the only vocational education center in Gedo region and
one of the best in the whole of Somalia.
Our Background
Sayid Mohamed Technical Education College (SaMTEC) was established and became functional in 2010.
SaMTEC is a private, non-profit, non-commercial, non-governmental, non-profit educational institution.
The college is first of its kind in Jubaland Sate of Somalia and leading Technical and Vocational Education (TVET) in Somalia.
SaMTEC is the only vocational education center in Gedo region and one of the best in the whole of Somalia.
The main SaMTEC campus is in Beled-Hawa town, with a mix of students coming from the neighboring Kenya and Ethiopia.
VISION
To be a state-of-the-art center of excellence for developing cutting edge market-oriented academic, vocational, and entrepreneurial skills training to youths and communities for job creation, selfreliance, and national development.
MISSION
To instill appropriate skills, knowledge and attitude among youths and communities through providing market-driven academic, technical, industrial, and vocational training and business support services thereby enhancing their capacity to generate incomes and improve their livelihoods and contribute to national development.

The College started offering 3 courses at its early days, and gradually increased to the current 19 different courses (Table below).
In addition to SaMTEC s main campus in Beld-Hawa, Agriculture Training Centre (ATC) campus in Luuq offers specializes agribusiness and agriculture extension vocational training courses.
Additional Crucial Units in SaMTEC
In addition to the Trade Training and Professional courses offered to the trainees SaMTEC has two crucial units:
For sustainability and thinking ahead, and to ensure the self-reliance of the college and meet with some of its operational needs, SaMTEC created a production unit which accommodates five sections (carpentry, textile, welding and fabrications, electronic repair, and masonry and brick making).
Production units at work are shown in the photos below.
- Carpentry section produces a presentable output of well designed and modernized furniture of all kinds
- Clothing & Textile section produces and makes fashions, school uniforms for the local markets
- Welding and fabrication section produces metallic materials like gates, beds, and household utensils and cutleries.
- Business and production units also act as internship and industrial learning practical hub which provides incentives for students
